The Char Dham Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage circuit in Uttarakhand, India, involving four sites: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. The journey aims to seek spiritual blessings and purification, with Yamunotri dedicated to Yamuna, Gangotri to Ganga, Kedarnath to Shiva, and Badrinath to Vishnu. The journey, blending devotion, natural beauty, and cultural heritage, attracts millions of pilgrims and tourists annually. Uttarakhand, known as the Land of Gods, is a popular destination for pilgrims due to its rich spiritual heritage. This region is home to several sacred locations in the Himalayas, including Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, collectively known as the Char Dham. The name ‘Char’ in Hindi means four, while ‘dham’ signifies holy places, highlighting the significance of these sites in Hindu mythology and pilgrimage traditions. High-altitude shrines close annually, opening in summer and closing in winter. 

The pilgrimage begins in Yamunotri and continues to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. The journey can be completed by air or road, with helicopter services available. Some devotees also undertake the Do Dham Yatra to Kedarnath and Badrinath. The Yamunotri temple, situated in Uttarkashi district, honors Goddess Yamuna. Gangotri, India’s revered river, is worshipped in Uttarkashi. Kedarnath, dedicated to Lord Shiva, lies in Rudraprayag district. Badrinarayan Temple, devoted to Lord Vishnu, is in Badrinath. These sites offer a heavenly yet challenging pilgrimage.
