CHOPTA
Chopta, also known as the’mini Switzerland’ of Uttarakhand, is a paradise in the Garhwal Himalayas, located at an altitude of 2,608 m. It offers a pleasant summer, rain-free monsoon, and snow-clad winter. The area is home to the Panch Kedar, the five most sacred Shiva temples in Uttarakhand, and is a birding paradise with over 240 species of birds, including native and migratory species like Himalayan monal, swiftlet, griffon, scarlet finch, and hill partridge. Nearby sites for bird watching include Dugalbitta, Mandal village, Makkumath, and the Tungnath trek route. Chopta has been declared an important bird-watching site by national and international conservation and biodiversity organizations.
